Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Tension gripped Bikash Bhavan on Thursday evening when a young woman jumped from the second floor of the administrative building amidst ongoing protests by unemployed candidates demanding government jobs. The incident occurred around 6 pm, shocking bystanders and intensifying the already chaotic atmosphere.
According to sources, the woman had come to Bikash Bhavan for a special occasion, the details of which remain undisclosed. However, she found herself trapped inside the premises due to a large-scale demonstration by unemployed qualified teachers that had led to movement restrictions within the building.
Eyewitnesses said that the woman repeatedly requested to leave the premises, citing a medical emergency at home involving her mother, who required urgent medication. As her pleas went unheard amid the protest commotion and mounting stress, she made a desperate attempt to escape by jumping from the second floor.
She suffered injuries to her leg and hand due to the fall and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Onlookers and officials present at the spot were left in disbelief, and the incident stirred further excitement and concern among the crowd.
In a brief statement, the woman explained that she acted out of desperation because her ailing mother was alone at home and needed immediate care. Her emotional outburst highlighted the human cost of such mass movements when administrative access is blocked.
